A family is made up of individuals with unique personalities that sometimes do not mesh well together. This can lead to patterns of inappropriate or unhealthy behavior that become family norms. We help families to recognize these patterns and develop patterns that are healthier and more in line with positive interactions. Additionally, we help with blended families coming together, thinking about and discussing potential challenges and creating a template that will ensure a successful transition to a new family unit.
Anger is a natural human emotion that most everyone experiences at some point. In and of itself, anger is not a bad thing. What can make anger bad is our response to it. How we respond when angry can be positive or negative. We will help you analyze your response and the origins of that response, and develop healthy positive ways to manage your anger.
Managing the behavior of children can be a challenging task. Often children may act out in negative ways because they do not have a vehicle to adequately express themselves. Additionally, they may not even know how to express what they are feeling. We provide a structure to help manage these emotions as well as a plan of action for parents to create boundaries and expectations moving forward to establish healthy balanced relationships.
Codependent behavior in relationships can exist in many different forms. When relationships are enmeshed and individuals are unable to be their best selves, this can lead to unhealthy functioning. We help indiviuals to recognize the difficulties inherent in these kind of relationships and provide guidance for creating healthy relationships with clear, appropriate boundaries.
Conflict is a natural part of life that will inevitably arise in some form or fashion. The conflict is not the problem, rather the resolution of the conflict can bring about difficulties. However, there is always always always a solution and we help to teach individuals to utilize techniques for finding a middle ground solution that benefits all involved. Our techniques have proven beneficial to helping many people to find a place of peace and compromise.
Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. Many people often will hide these feelings with a fear of feeling weak or not in control. We allow the expression of emotions in a safe secure setting and focus on accepting and moving through the emotions in a positive manner. Through counseling and treatment, we are able to help you recover motivation, perspective, and joy that you once had in your life.
Abuse is a learned behavior that many people do not consider how it originated. Whether with parents or between partners, negative patterns have likely contributed to the abuse. We help people to understand the origins of these patterns and their destructiveness while also developing healthier models for interacting and dealing with any conflict that may have caused the abuse.
We will all expereince the feeling of grief at some time in our lives. The joy of birth has an opposite on the continuum of life with the grief of death. Practically speaking this is something we will all deal with at some point, but it is also something many are uncomfortable discussing. We help to provide a comfortable space to process the feelings related to grief and give healthy interventions for effectively managing these emotions.
Couples counseling is an important facet of mental health work as the couple provides the foundational unit for families. Often, couples do not adequately discuss their roles and expectations for a relationship prior to getting married. We thus help couples operationalize and gain clarity about what their relationship is and what they need out of the relationship in clear terms that both parties can understand. This removes assumptions and allows for healthy development moving forward. We provide tools for positive clear communication, negotiating differences and being clear about the marital values.
Sometimes we need perspective on how our life is manifesting and what we need to do to create the type of life we want to have. Feeling stuck can be overwhelming and cause other negative emotions. We help to coach individuals through these times or offer perspectives about which course of life will yield the results that bring the greatest level of happiness. Ultimately we collaborate with individuals to make the life that is in alignment with your greater good.
Our society can be quite stressful at times, in good and not so good ways. Distress is the term for negative stress and eustress is the term for positive stress, and both can have an adverse impact on our functioning. We help individuals to recognize the stressors that may be impacting them and develop tools for managing this stress in an appropriate manner. Ultimately we help people strive for balance as they build a life that is happy and healthy.
When confronted with the challenges of life, many people will turn to outside substances to find a relief from the pressures and difficulties they are faced with. For some this can lead to addiction or addictive behavior. We help individuals to recognize the impact of these substances on their life, and to develop a plan of action to overcome the substances and deal with the pressures of life in positive ways. Creating a positive plan of action for living life free of substances is an integral part of this treatment.
